Disclaimer: General Information, Not Legal, Tax or HR Advice

Everything on employment.biz is general information about how the paperwork and process of work operates in the United States and in California. It is not legal, tax, financial or human-resources advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a professional who knows the facts of your situation.

What this site is not

  • Not a law firm, an accounting firm or an HR consultancy. employment.biz is published by Webhaus LLC, a publisher. Nobody on the team is licensed to practice law, is a certified public accountant or holds an HR credential.
  • Not advice. The pages describe forms, deadlines, rules and agency procedures in general terms. They cannot tell you what to do in your situation, and the right course in a particular case can depend on facts no general page can know: your state, your employer’s size, your contract, your immigration status, your tax situation.
  • Not a professional relationship. Reading this site, emailing the editor or following a link creates no attorney-client, accountant-client or consulting relationship with anyone.
  • Not a referral service and not a job board. The site does not recommend, rank, endorse or match readers with attorneys, accountants, HR consultants, recruiters or employers, and it lists no jobs. Where it names ways to get help, it names official channels: the agency’s own page, its phone line or its complaint process, and the state bar’s certified referral services.
  • Not the agency and not your employer. The site has no connection to the Department of Labor, the IRS, USCIS, the EEOC, the EDD, the Labor Commissioner or any employer. It cannot file a claim, check a case, verify anyone’s employment or answer a question about your account. The agencies’ own pages, linked from each article, can.

Information changes

Tax rates, wage bases, minimum wages, benefit amounts, headcount thresholds, forms and deadlines change, usually on January 1 and sometimes mid-year. Every figure on the site carries the date or the tax year of the source it comes from, and pages are re-checked on a schedule, but a page may be out of date on the day you read it. Before you rely on a rate, a deadline or a form edition, confirm it on the agency’s page, which is linked from the article.

Deadlines

Employment, tax and benefit rules have deadlines that a website cannot extend: the days to respond to a background-check notice, to elect COBRA, to file an unemployment claim or an appeal, to file a discrimination charge. If a deadline is near, contact the agency, a legal aid organization or a professional without waiting.
